Introduction

Along with some notes about these posts.

This post is the first in a series (knock on wood) of explaining some concepts relating to lattice-based cryptography. I hope to provide an intuitive way to understand concepts, especially for someone who does not have a strictly math-oriented background. As we go through topics, I will provide general descriptions, explanatory figures, and formal definitions. I generate most of the graphs with my rudimentary library latgraph.

This is a rather informal introduction. For a more precise, but introductory, explanation, I suggest watching these videos from a Simons Institute bootcamp [2] and reading these course notes from Chris Peikert [1].

Before we start, I emphasize that I am an amateur mathematician; I am not an expert. I hope to update these posts with corrections, and if you notice anything, please contact me: I am using this as a learning experience! I highly encourage the reader to use more sources than just this website.
